On Wednesday I will be heading to Denver for a few days. Even though I am technically going for work, the prospect of being away from my desk for awhile makes it feel almost like a vacation.
I found this fun picture of the skyline on Flickr. It is by Fort Photo and I am using it under a Creative Commons license. You should check out some of Fort Photo’s otherpictures too. They’re fantastic.
We started on a construction lot, caused a mishap, hurt someone, witnessed a murder, got away, came back, were chased, had Tina Fey explain it all with a comic strip, got to vegas, gambled away our fortune, tried to make off with the drugs, ran from the cops, escaped in a pastel patchwork getaway car, got caught in traffic, hit the highway, found a hotel, bumped into some friends, met some lesbians, got cosy with some colleagues, were protected by some acquaintances, and still made it to the show on time.

Ang wanted me to inform y’all about the Browns. So peep this:
The Browns are poised for a breakout season. The offense starts with the best offensive line in football. Their dynamic backfield, led by Jamal Lewis and Lawrence Vickers, plays smash mouth football with the best of them. Derek Anderson, Braylon Edwards, Kellen Winslow, and Donte Stallworth are as dangerous a passing game as there is.
Despite its 53% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, I thoroughly enjoyed the film Married Life. Harry Allen (Chris Cooper) and his wife Pat (Patricia Clarkson) have a seemingly happy life. Only Harry is secretly having an affair with Kay (Rachel McAdams) and is plotting to leave Pat. Unable to tell Pat that he wants out of the marriage for fear of hurting her too badly, Harry decides that the kindest option is to kill Pat. But what Harry doesn’t know is that his best friend and confidant, Richard, (Pierce Brosnan) has also fallen for Kay. The movie has a nice, slow-pace that many of the critics disliked, but I thought suited the film perfectly.
It is a dark comedy and works, in a way, like a good short story. Instead of delving too much into character background, the film instead presents a snapshot of the characters in a specific period of time. This allows for an easier suspension of disbelief surrounding Harry’s bizarre actions and the film leaves the audience to ponder character motivation long after the credits have rolled.
I just finished watching the entire collection of Remington Steele on DVD. There are a lot of reasons that I love this show, but the main reason is Miss Laura Holt. I confess, I have a bit of girl crush on Miss Holt. She is such a strong female character – smart, capable, and owner of very modest and reasonable work wardrobe. There should be more characters like her on television.
In some ways, Miss Holt is the 1980s equivalent of Special Agent Dana Scully. They both are highly intelligent women trying to make it a male-centric, male dominated profession. Each is trying to earn well-deserved respect in that profession. Each is paired with a non-conformist male counterpart that they don’t entirely understand. And, each is quite agile in a pair of heels.
Remington Steele has been occupying my free time since January. I guess now I’ll have to go back and watch the DVD extras. I am also considering trying to watch all of the movies that are referenced in each episode. If there’s time, I might even delve into some RS FanFiction. That ought to be enough to keep me busy until July 25th.
