This morning Russell and I participated in the Scope It Out 5K.  We were walking, not running due to our lack of physical fitness.  We were really only involved to get the fun blue wicking t-shirts that were promised on registration.

The race course was not exactly lined with people (presumably the spectators were all out watching the National Marathon, which also took place today), but there were a fair number of volunteers cheering us on.  They had a pretty big spectacle at the finish though, with the announcer calling out names of racers as they crossed the line.  As walkers, Russell and I felt it was kind of embarrassing to be singled out for completing the course, so we tried to walk close to the people in front of us to keep our race numbers from being visible, preventing the announcer from identifying us.  Unfortunately I wasn’t walking close enough to the guy in front of me because the announcer called my name.  Except she got it wrong.  I’m not sure if I should be embarrassed to be singled out, or enraged not to be recognized for my truly remarkable achievement.

After that we took our wicking t-shirts and left to go enjoy a delicious diner breakfast.  Mmm… biscuits.
